The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has nominated the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), as the recipient of this year’s Mayor of Peace Award
The announcement was made following the association’s 246th general session held in Lagos, where Gen. Musa was honoured for his outstanding contributions to peace and security in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking on the nomination, Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke, International Spokesman of IAWPA, commended the retired military chief for his strategic leadership and unwavering commitment to national stability.
“Gen. Musa’s tenure as Chief of Defence Staff was marked by significant achievements, including the successful execution of major operations to combat terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria,” Nkweke said. “His leadership and strategic thinking have been instrumental in maintaining peace and stability across the country.”
According to the association, Gen. Musa’s record includes notable accomplishments in counter-terrorism, regional security cooperation, troop welfare, and international peacekeeping efforts.
During his time as Defence Chief, Musa led several counter-terrorism campaigns that liberated communities previously held by insurgents. He also fostered stronger regional partnerships with neighbouring countries to address cross-border security challenges and enhance joint operations.
Additionally, he was credited with improving troop welfare through better living conditions, medical support, and initiatives aimed at boosting morale and operational efficiency within the armed forces.
The Mayor of Peace Award is IAWPA’s annual recognition of individuals whose leadership and service have significantly advanced peace and security around the world.
The association noted that Gen. Musa’s nomination reflects his “dedication to public service, exemplary leadership, and enduring commitment to promoting peace at both national and global levels.”
