A Nigerian woman identified as Melissa has gone viral on TikTok after sharing a video documenting how she and her family voluntarily relocated from the United Kingdom back to Nigeria, despite holding British citizenship.
In the video, Melissa captured their journey from packing up their home in the UK to boarding their flight and settling into a new apartment in Nigeria.
Explaining the decision, Melissa said their return was not due to immigration issues, as many speculated, but a personal choice. “It wasn’t a forced move; we made a choice. We decided it was time to go home. Before leaving, we sold most of our household items, packed up what truly mattered, and said our final goodbye to a country we’ve called home for six years a forever goodbye to the UK,” she said.
She added that the family has rented out their properties in the UK and is now focused on starting a new chapter in Nigeria.
The video has since stirred widespread debate online, with many Nigerians questioning the wisdom of returning home amid economic hardship and security concerns, while others praised the family’s decision as courageous and patriotic.
