The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Islamic and Traditional Marriages (Registration) Bill and the Water Users’ Association (Irrigation) Bill.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, said in a statement that the two bills are aimed at strengthening social institutions and advancing agricultural development across the state.
In a statement by Tiamiyu, the bills were passed after the House Committee reports were considered and adopted clause by clause during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun.
He further said that when signed into law, the Water Users’ Association Bill would empower farmers and rural communities to manage irrigation infrastructure in a sustainable manner, improve the distribution of water, raise crop yields, and increase food security. Tiamiyu added that the clean copies of the bills would be produced and transmitted to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for his assent.
