A delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu and led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has started consultations with the United Kingdom authorities over the continued imprisonment of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
The discussions are based on the potential transfer of Ekweremadu to Nigeria to complete serving his prison sentence.
On arrival, the delegation met with the UK Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice, and is scheduled to hold further talks with key officials on the matter. Confirming the development to Arise Television, the spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Minister, Alkasim AbdulKadir, said: “Consultations are still ongoing with UK authorities on the matter. An appeal for a prisoner exchange, allowing him to serve the rest of his sentence in Nigeria, has been presented to the United Kingdom authorities.”
