ADC Accuses Tinubu of Insensitivity Amid Rising Insecurity

African Democratic Congress (ADC) charged President Bola Tinubu with further showing insensitivity to Nigeria’s worsening security situation, stating that he pays more attention to political theatre than his constitutional duty to protect citizens.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party labelled the President’s recent vow in the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, Plateau State where he pledged to unite Nigerians as “mere political rhetoric.” The ADC argued that Tinubu’s actions since assuming office have not been indicative of a serious commitment to national unity.

The country is under siege, and the President’s tendency to attend political and social functions despite growing insecurity is unacceptable and irresponsible,” the statement read.

Citing current events, the party noted that nine councils of local governments in Kwara State heretofore regarded as peaceful have been allegedly captured by armed bandits, who are making their residents provide them with food, money, and other items as ransom. The ADC termed that as “a complete failure of governance,” grumbling that the presidency has not even acknowledged the crisis or taken a step to assist affected communities.

The report further referenced other violent raids, including a raid in Kogi State where travellers were killed and some individuals kidnapped, and the closure of more than 180 schools across northern Nigeria due to increasing insecurity.

“These reports are part of a larger and bloodier trend,” the ADC further noted, listing Plateau, Zamfara, Benue, Niger, Kaduna, and Kwara among states that are repeatedly under attack by mass kidnappings, deadly raids, and forced displacement.

The party urged the Tinubu administration to move quickly and harmoniously in restoring peace and securing the safety of Nigerians’ lives.
