Excitement at Abia State Polytechnic as Salary Arrears Are Paid

The newly elected President of the All Africa Students’ Union, Enyinnaya Osisiogu, has paid a courtesy visit to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, expressing strong support for the governor’s education-focused policies and reforms.

Speaking during the visit in Umuahia, Osisiogu described the meeting as a personal homecoming, noting that he is the first Nigerian to be elected president of the continental students’ body since its formation in the early 1970s. He said he felt honoured to formally present himself to the governor following his historic victory.

“I am proud to identify with your administration,” Osisiogu said, adding that Otti’s leadership has given Abia students renewed confidence and pride wherever they go. He revealed that during his campaign tours across 43 African countries, he often highlighted Abia State as a place committed to education, citing the state’s plan to invest over $150 million in the sector next year.

Osisiogu thanked the governor for what he described as visible progress in the state, saying the administration’s focus on education had elevated Abia’s image across the continent.

In his response, Governor Otti congratulated Osisiogu on his election and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to education, describing it as the foundation of societal growth.

“Education is the most important industry because it feeds every other sector,” Otti said, noting that his administration has consistently allocated about 20 per cent of the state’s budget to education over the past two years.

The governor also recalled his recent visit to Abia State University, Uturu, where he was confronted with poor hostel conditions. He said the government immediately moved to begin rehabilitation works to improve students’ living conditions.

Governor Otti encouraged Osisiogu to remain guided by the values that earned him the confidence of African students and assured him of the state government’s continued support as he leads the union.
