The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for the credible and successful conduct of the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election.
In a statement signed by its National President, Kabiru Yusuf, the Forum described the election as “a refreshing testament to Nigeria’s steady progress toward credible, transparent, and people-driven democracy”.
According to the AYCF, the Anambra poll was peaceful, well-coordinated, and marked by significant improvements in logistics, technological efficiency, and voter confidence under the new leadership of INEC.
The Forum said in a statement, “The outcome of the Anambra Governorship Election is a strong signal that the era of voter apathy and widespread distrust in the electoral process is gradually fading away. With INEC under the current leadership ably led by Chairman Dr. Amupitan, Nigerians can now begin to hope again that their votes will truly count.
The forum praised a number of innovations that contributed to the success of the election and included timely deployment of materials, effective use of BVAS, and prompt electronic result transmission. These, it said, were a clear break from the irregularities that had previously marred similar elections.
AYCF then called on INEC to sustain the momentum, adding that the Anambra experience should be a model for future elections across the country. “INEC must resist all forms of pressure that could derail the newfound credibility of the institution,” it added.
The Forum also praised the people of Anambra State for their peaceful conduct, saying they were “patriotic Nigerians who have rekindled national faith in democracy.”
Observers across the country have similarly hailed the election as a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, citing INEC’s improved transparency, logistics, and technology deployment as key factors behind its success.
