Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar declared on Monday that he has launched his political battle against the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing the party of bringing hardship and insecurity upon Nigerians. He said this in Adamawa State after formally registering as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“From today henceforth, I have begun my fight against APC an evil party that has caused nothing but suffering for the people until the day we oust that party from governance,” Atiku told supporters after collecting his membership card. He faulted the APC for what he described as unprecedented poverty and hardship experienced nationwide.
“There has never been a party that had caused suffering, abject poverty, and insecurity to the Nigerian people like APC,” he said, promising that with public support, the ADC would deliver better leadership and positive change.
For Atiku, this is yet another chapter in his long political journey. He joined the APC in 2014 and contested its presidential primaries, which he lost to the former President Muhammadu Buhari. He returned to the PDP in 2017 and ran as its presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
His official registration with the ADC follows months of speculation over political negotiations involving leading opposition figures.
