Paul Ibe, the media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called out the Nigerian judiciary following a controversial moment at the All Nigerian Judges Conference where a pro-Tinubu campaign song was played.
President Bola Tinubu was the special guest of honor at the event.
But just before he took the stage to speak, the live band struck up the popular supporters’ anthem, “On your mandate we shall stand”, a phrase closely tied to Tinubu’s political brand.
The moment didn’t sit well with Paul Ibe, who posted the video online and questioned why a partisan campaign song was being played at what’s supposed to be a neutral judicial event.
He wrote:
“Are Nigerian judges now also standing on the mandate of Tinubu too? One would have thought they would be standing at all times on the mandate of constitutionalism and the rule of law. This is worrisome.”
His comments have ignited a firestorm on social media, with many Nigerians questioning whether it’s appropriate for political displays to happen at official judicial functions.
