Adunni Ade Wins ₦20 Million Lawsuit Over False Story Linking Her to Dino Melaye

Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has won a ₦20 million judgment against an online news platform after a Federal High Court ruled in her favor in a defamation case. The case, which dragged on for almost two years, began after the platform published a report falsely linking her to an alleged romantic relationship with Senator Dino Melaye. The story, which listed her among “six Nigerian celebrities” said to be dating the politician, quickly went viral. Feeling her name and image had been unfairly tarnished, Adunni Ade sued the outlet for defamation and invasion of privacy, demanding ₦100 million in damages. On Tuesday, she took to Instagram to share the news of her victory, expressing gratitude to the Nigerian judiciary for upholding the truth. “Won my case Adunni Ade vs. Polace Media Limited (www.naijanews.com). A false story was published about me, but truth stood tall,” she wrote. “This judgment reaffirms that privacy matters and so does integrity. Justice delayed isn’t justice denied.” She also revealed that the court awarded ₦20 million in her favor but noted humorously that the defendant had since fled. “Judge granted ₦20 million in damages, but blogger don japa. Na to garnish account remain,” she joked in reply to a fan’s comment. The actress hinted that this isn’t her only legal battle, revealing she has already won two out of several ongoing defamation cases. She also urged journalists and bloggers to verify their information before publishing stories that could damage reputations.

Taylor Swift Slams Wedding Jealousy Rumors: “Selena’s Day Was All About Her”

Taylor Swift isn’t having it with tabloid gossip claiming she was jealous at Selena Gomez‘s wedding to Benny Blanco. After reports surfaced that Swift joked about Selena “beating her to the altar”, a supposed dig at her own engagement to Travis Kelce, Taylor went on The Tonight Show to shut it down. “It was Selena’s moment,” Swift told Jimmy Fallon. “I was there to celebrate her and Benny. There were no engagement jokes, no comments, just love and happiness.” The rumors started swirling after Selena and Benny’s star-studded Santa Barbara wedding, where Taylor was among the guests. Instead of any drama, Swift had nothing but praise for the newlyweds. “The wedding was absolutely beautiful, and Selena was the most stunning bride,” she said. Taylor also got nostalgic about their friendship, which goes back to 2008. “We’ve grown up together through everything. Seeing her this happy means the world to me.” With one appearance, Taylor made it crystal clear: real friends don’t compete, they show up and celebrate. And she did exactly that for Selena’s big day.

Peter Obi Defends Supporters: “Every Nigerian Deserves Dignity, No One Is a Street Urchin”

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has fired back at critics who called his supporters “street urchins” and “low-class Nigerians,” saying such language reveals how far the nation has fallen. In a statement posted on X, Obi didn’t mince words about the recent attacks on his followers, known as Obidients. He called out the troubling trend of Nigerians belittling each other based on social status. “I’ve been hearing people dismiss those who support me as low-class, even calling them street urchins with no value,” Obi wrote. “It’s sad that we’ve reached a point where Nigerians look down on their own people like this.” The former Anambra governor made it clear where he stands: “I’ve never looked down on anyone, except to lift them up. We only rise by lifting others.” Obi explained that his politics has always been about everyday Nigerians, not rubbing shoulders with the elite. “I didn’t get into politics to hang out with the so-called high and mighty. I’m here for ordinary people whose voices have been silenced and whose resources have been stolen by those same ‘big names’ who now walk around with fancy titles.” He pushed back hard against the idea that any Nigerian is worthless: “No Nigerian has no value. No Nigerian is a street urchin. The fact that our leaders can call struggling citizens these names shows how broken things have become.” Obi challenged political leaders to show some humanity instead of mocking people who are barely getting by. “Every Nigerian deserves dignity, opportunity, and care. That’s why I’ll keep fighting to give ordinary people better access to education, healthcare, and real pathways out of poverty.” He wrapped up with a simple but powerful message: “Real leadership isn’t about mocking the weak, it’s about lifting them up. A New Nigeria is possible.”

Mahdi Shehu Blasts Segun Showunmi Over Call to Sanction Arise TV After Umahi-Rufai Oseni Clash

Political activist Mahdi Shehu has launched a scathing attack on former Atiku Abubakar aide Segun Showunmi following his comments on the explosive on-air confrontation between Works Minister David Umahi and Arise TV journalist Rufai Oseni. The controversy erupted during Arise TV’s Morning Show when Oseni questioned Umahi about the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project and challenged his claims of holding a professorship in engineering. The exchange quickly turned heated, with Umahi telling the journalist to “keep quiet” and declaring that Oseni was “too small” to question his credentials or suggest he influenced the President’s decisions. The clash went viral, sparking nationwide debate about media professionalism, government accountability, and respect for public office. In response, Showunmi, now head of political group The Alternative, criticized what he sees as growing unprofessionalism among TV presenters. In a statement titled “Enough is Enough: When Broadcasters Become the Story,” he accused Arise TV of crossing ethical lines and called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to take action. “When television anchors abandon professionalism for provocation, it becomes the duty of the station’s management to call them to order. But when that failure becomes routine, the NBC must step in,” Showunmi wrote. He added: “Freedom of expression is not freedom to abuse. Regulation is not repression; it is the defence of sanity and national interest.” Mahdi Shehu didn’t hold back in his response, accusing Showunmi of betraying press freedom and siding with the government to silence critical media. “When they appoint you the DG of NBC, you can shut down Arise if you like. Or even now, you can approach Tinubu to shut down Arise, Premium Times, Sahara Reporters, etc., so that evil will triumph over falsehood for a short while,” Shehu shot back. He went further, calling Showunmi a “sell-out” and suggesting his stance was motivated by personal interest rather than principle. “When sell-outs sell all they have and the proceeds are shrinking, they will seek another opportunity to restock and replenish. Such is the sad commentary of the recanting Segun. Good riddance to stupid, stinking rubbish,” Shehu added.

“Don’t Search Your Husband’s Phone” – Shehu Sani Warns Women Against Snooping, Says It Leads to Avoidable Heartbreak

Former Senator Shehu Sani has sparked debate on social media after advising women to avoid checking their husbands’ phones without permission. The ex-Kaduna Central lawmaker took to X (formerly Twitter) to caution that snooping through a partner’s phone often causes more harm than good, leading to unnecessary pain and relationship breakdowns. Sani argued that not every truth is worth uncovering, particularly in marriages where trust should be the foundation. He pointed out that many domestic conflicts start when one partner invades the other’s privacy looking for evidence of wrongdoing. “If you cannot handle some truths, don’t go searching for them in this imperfect and temporary life,” he wrote. “Don’t search the phone of your husband without his consent.” Using striking imagery, the former senator warned: “When the Devil directs you to your husband’s phone, he wants to open your eyes and shut down your heart.” His statement suggests that while snooping may reveal uncomfortable truths, it often destroys the emotional bond between partners rather than bringing clarity or resolution. Sani encouraged couples to focus on communication, trust, and mutual respect instead of letting suspicion drive their actions. He concluded his message by urging people to avoid creating problems that could have been prevented. “Avoidable tragedies should be avoided!” he added.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Resigns After 10 Years, May Agbamuche-Mbu Takes Over as Acting Chair

Professor Mahmood Yakubu has resigned as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a decade in office, handing over to May Agbamuche-Mbu, one of the commission’s most senior national commissioners. The handover took place on Tuesday during INEC’s routine meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the commission’s Abuja headquarters. Yakubu cited constitutional provisions under Section 36, Subsections 1 and 2 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution as the basis for his decision. He explained that stepping down now would give authorities time to appoint a permanent replacement and allow the new chairman to prepare for Nigeria’s complex electoral calendar. “I hope this will give the appointing authorities adequate time to appoint a new chairman who can quickly settle into the task of conducting elections in Africa’s most demographically and logistically challenging environment,” Yakubu said. Ms. Agbamuche-Mbu, selected after consultation with other national commissioners, will serve as Acting Chairman until a substantive appointment is made. Looking back on his ten-year tenure, Yakubu acknowledged the difficulties of managing elections in Africa’s most populous country. He thanked his colleagues and Nigerians for their support throughout his time in office. “Together, we innovated and managed the commission’s enormous responsibilities, sometimes on the verge of breaking down,” he said. “Above all, I thank Nigerians for their comments and criticisms, which encouraged us to persevere.”

NNPC: Cooking Gas Prices Will Drop as Supply Returns After PENGASSAN Strike Ends

Nigerians may soon see relief at the pump as cooking gas prices are expected to fall following the resolution of a strike that disrupted supplies nationwide. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has confirmed that the recent price surge was triggered by a work stoppage by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), which halted loading and distribution at major facilities. NNPC Group Chief Executive Bayo Ojulari explained the situation after meeting with President Bola Tinubu. He said the strike created a two-to-three-day delay in gas movement, causing an artificial shortage that pushed prices up across the country. “Now that things are back to normal, prices should return to what they were before the strike,” Ojulari told reporters at the State House. But the strike wasn’t the only culprit. Ojulari pointed out that some retailers exploited the shortage by inflating prices beyond reasonable levels, making the situation worse for consumers. To address this, NNPC says it’s tightening monitoring and enforcement to prevent price gouging and keep cooking gas affordable for Nigerian households. The Dangote Refinery, which was also affected by the strike, has resumed operations after the Dangote Group reached an agreement with the federal government. This restart is already helping to ease supply constraints and improve availability. Ojulari urged Nigerians to be patient as the market stabilizes, assuring them that the price spike was temporary and largely behind us.
