Babatunde Oyalami stole the show on Sunday to win the 64th FirstBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship held at the Ikoyi Club, recording a total gross score of 231 over 54 holes. Opening with a 78, the Osun-based golfer followed up with a 75 on the second day and closed with another 78 to win the title by three strokes.
Osaze Iyare finished second with a 324 total, as Ibrahim Bilya came third after rounds of 84, 75, and 77. Further down the leaderboard was Monday Joseph of St. Mark Golf and Country Club, Otukpo, who placed with 237, while Enugu Golf Club’s Michael Isife completed the top five.
Oyalami said he was happy about the achievement and thanked FirstBank for creating the avenue for him to excel. He added that the win has motivated him to pursue his professional career just as past champions who used the tournament as a springboard.
Monday Eze, a two-time Lagos Open winner, topped the professional category and won N10 million, while other professionals received consolation awards. The Bethesda Home and School for the Blind and the Pacelli School for the Blind were further supported with N3 million donations each.
FirstBank CEO Olusegun Alebiosu, who was represented at the event by Nnaemeka Ejeh, Group Executive, Retail Banking South, reiterated the bank’s commitment toward sports development through the First@Sport initiative, which aims to promote excellence, nurture young talent, and enhance community participation.
