Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has declared Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, 2025, as public holidays ahead of the state’s local government elections scheduled for Saturday, November 1.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, announced the work-free days in a statement, explaining that the decision was aimed at allowing eligible voters across the state to fully participate in the polls.
“The work-free days are intended to provide all eligible voters the opportunity to go to their respective polling units and cast their votes in the elections,” Usman said.
He added that during the period, markets, banks, financial institutions, and public offices would remain closed, while the movement of persons and vehicles would be restricted, except for those on essential duties.
The SSG further stated that Governor Bago had granted all political appointees a one-week leave to return to their constituencies and mobilize support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.
“Government is encouraging citizens to come out en masse and perform their civic responsibilities. This election provides yet another opportunity for Nigerlites to elect capable leaders who will drive grassroots development,” he said.
He also disclosed that the governor has directed security agencies to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to a safe and transparent electoral process.
