The Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, said that armed bandits terrorising communities across Nigeria often act out of revenge and do not attack without provocation.
Speaking on Trust TV on Friday, while reacting to the proposed invasion by the United States of Nigeria, Gumi insisted that dialogue remains the best path to peace, stressing that if government invited the bandits for talks, they would respond positively.
They don’t just attack without a cause. Bandits are on a revenge mission. If you call them for peace, they will come. They are not like IPOB members who have refused to dialogue.
The cleric, often criticized for his stand on banditry, noted that peace in the affected areas would be restored through engagement and negotiation, not confrontation.
