A girl aged seven, Rukayya Muhammad, has lost her eyes after her brother, Auwalu Muhammad, allegedly gouged out her two eyes in a suspected ritual attack in order to become wealthy. The incident occurred in Wailo town, Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi State.
The father of Rukayya, Muhammad Adamu from Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, reported the case to Soro Divisional Police Headquarters on 17th October, 2025. He stated that his son took the little girl to a nearby bush and assaulted her, removing her eyes forcefully.
The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for immediate attention, but the doctors later confirmed that the victim had permanently lost her sight.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said that the Divisional Police Officer of Soro Division, CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, with a team of detectives, moved to the scene and arrested the suspect.
Wakil also disclosed that six other individuals were arrested for the offense Auwalu Dahiru (17), Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43).
“During interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime,” Wakil said, and that investigation was underway to determine the full reason behind the attack and ensure justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
He also restated the determination of the command in fighting ritual-related crimes and bringing to justice all culprits of such inhuman activities.
