Bauchi Govt Debunks Claims of Governor Bala Mohammed Planning Defection to PRP

Governor Bala Muhammed

The Bauchi State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Bala Mohammed is considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

In a statement on Wednesday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, described the allegation as false and mischievous, stressing that Governor Mohammed has never contemplated dumping the PDP, let alone joining the PRP.

Gidado said the claim credited to the PRP’s Bauchi Publicity Secretary was an attempt to gain attention through misinformation. “Ordinarily, such a baseless remark would be ignored… however, silence in the face of falsehood can be misread as acceptance,” he said.

He reaffirmed that Governor Mohammed, who currently chairs the PDP Governors Forum, remains a committed leader within the party and has been instrumental in efforts to stabilise it amid what he called attempts by anti-democratic forces to create a one-party system.

Highlighting the governor’s political strength, Gidado noted that Mohammed had twice defeated the PRP in competitive elections, and continues to enjoy widespread recognition for his leadership and reforms in Bauchi State.

He pointed to ongoing efforts in empowerment, rural development, tourism, infrastructure, and the restructuring of traditional institutions as evidence of the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.

Gidado criticised the PRP for failing to appreciate these reforms, describing the party as “progressive in name but retrogressive in character.”

The statement urged residents to remain vigilant and not allow recent gains to be undermined by detractors. It also clarified that while Governor Mohammed retains the right to determine his political future, “no decision will be influenced by political turncoats thriving on falsehood and malice.”
