Boko Haram/ISWAP Claims Killing of Brigade Commander Uba After Ambush in Borno

Terrorist

Brigadier General M. Uba, Commander of the 25 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, who led the patrol team ambushed by Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Wajiroko, Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, has reportedly been killed by the terrorists.

This comes despite an earlier denial by the Nigerian Army, which had insisted that reports of his capture or death were false. The Army had confirmed that two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed in the ambush, as stated by Acting Deputy Director, Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anaele.

According to fresh reports, General Uba sustained gunshot wounds during the fierce confrontation and was initially believed to have escaped. However, Boko Haram/ISWAP militants reportedly pursued him after realizing he had fled the scene. They allegedly captured him alive as he attempted to return to base after leading his men out of the ambush zone.

The terrorist group later released a statement claiming responsibility for his capture and execution. “By the grace of God Almighty, the soldiers of the Caliphate were able to capture a ‘Brigade Commander’ in the apostate Nigerian Army… After interrogating him, the Mujahideen killed him with their weapons and returned safely,” the group said.

A photograph shared by the terrorists appears to show the Brigadier General with his hands tied in an undisclosed location.

As of the time of this report, the Nigerian military has not issued any official statement confirming or refuting the latest claims surrounding the commander’s death.
