APC Condemns Assault Involving Governor’s Aide, Backs Investigation in Gombe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has strongly condemned an assault involving a governor’s aide and a serving councillor, following the circulation of a viral video that sparked widespread public outrage. The footage shows Adamu Abdullahi Danko, an aide attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Gombe State Governor, allegedly assaulting Abdulrahman Abubakar, a councillor, who appeared helpless in the video. The incident drew sharp reactions from civil society groups, including Amnesty International and the Gombe State Network of Civil Society Organisations, which described the assault as unacceptable and demanded justice, including the aide’s dismissal. Amnesty International also criticised the incident as a disturbing example of growing impunity and repression by public officials in the state. Reacting on Tuesday, the APC, through its State Publicity Secretary, Moses Kyari, said the party was deeply concerned by the incident and unequivocally condemned all forms of violence and unlawful behaviour. Kyari described the assault as troubling and clearly at odds with the party’s values, discipline and democratic principles. He disclosed that the party has launched a full internal investigation and summoned those involved to establish the facts behind the altercation. According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring accountability, protecting the party’s integrity and preventing similar incidents in the future. Kyari stressed that the actions seen in the viral video were carried out solely on the individual’s initiative, without any approval or directive from the party or the state government. He added that taking the law into one’s hands is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The APC also praised the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, for promptly suspending the aide, Adamu Danko, pending the outcome of the investigation, describing the decision as a clear sign of commitment to discipline and justice. Assuring the public of transparency, Kyari said the investigation would be thorough and guided by the APC constitution, relevant laws and established procedures. He noted that the probe would examine all aspects of the incident, including events leading up to it and an audio message reportedly linked to the altercation. The party reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, due process and the rule of law, assuring the public, human rights groups and other stakeholders that anyone found guilty would face appropriate sanctions in line with party rules and the law.

Civil Groups Demand Probe as Dangote Levels Corruption Claims Against NMDPRA Boss

Civil society organisations have called on the federal government to urgently investigate corruption allegations made by Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed. Dangote recently raised concerns over Nigeria’s continued dependence on fuel imports, warning that the policy was hurting local refining and discouraging investment. He revealed that import licences covering about 7.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) were allegedly issued for the first quarter of 2026, despite the country having sufficient domestic refining capacity. According to him, modular refineries are already struggling to survive under the current policy environment, and the continued issuance of import permits is pushing them closer to collapse. Beyond the issue of fuel imports, Dangote also accused the NMDPRA boss of living far beyond his legitimate earnings. He called for an investigation by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) over allegations that Ahmed sent his children to secondary schools in Switzerland, allegedly paying as much as $5 million in tuition fees. “The Code of Conduct Bureau or any appropriate body should investigate this matter,” Dangote said. “If he denies it, I will publish the tuition payments and take legal steps to compel the schools to disclose the records. I am not calling for his removal, but for accountability. What is happening amounts to economic sabotage.” Dangote questioned how a public official could afford such fees in a country grappling with widespread poverty, noting that many parents in Ahmed’s home state of Sokoto struggle to pay basic school fees. Reacting to the allegations, Executive Director of Transparency International Nigeria, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, said the claims should not be ignored. He stressed that the allegations raised serious questions about asset declaration and the lifestyle of public officials. “If this allegation is true, it is a serious indictment of the system,” Rafsanjani said. “At a time Nigerians are battling hardship, no public official should be living far above their means. The government must investigate this thoroughly.” Rafsanjani added that public institutions suffer because officials often use public funds to educate their children abroad instead of strengthening local systems. Meanwhile, investigations revealed that neither the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) nor the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has received a formal petition on the matter. However, sources within the anti-graft agencies confirmed that they are empowered to investigate allegations raised in the public domain, even without a petition. “Media reports can form the basis of investigations,” a source said. Energy expert and President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo, also weighed in, describing the alleged $5 million tuition fee as “humongous.” “That amount can comfortably establish a functional modular refinery in Nigeria,” he said, urging anti-corruption agencies to probe the allegations in the interest of transparency. Amid the growing tension, the House of Representatives has stepped in, urging Dangote Refinery and the NMDPRA to halt public accusations. The House Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream and Midstream) said it convened an emergency meeting to prevent further escalation that could destabilise the sector. The committee invited both parties for mediation and asked them to suspend media hostilities pending the outcome of its investigation, stressing the need to protect recent gains in fuel supply stability in the post-subsidy era.

Oliseh Reveals Real Madrid Are Considering Shock Move for Osimhen

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has claimed that a major transfer involving Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and Real Madrid is more than just speculation. Oliseh revealed on the Global Football Insight Podcast that he received credible information from a “top personality” indicating that the Spanish giants are seriously considering Osimhen as a potential signing. While he declined to disclose the source, he expressed excitement about the prospect, saying he was “happy for the young man” upon hearing the news. According to Oliseh, Real Madrid’s interest fits into the club’s broader squad restructuring. He suggested that bringing in a traditional No. 9 like Osimhen would free up star forward Kylian Mbappé to operate from his favoured left-wing position. Osimhen’s current form in Turkey appears to be driving the interest. The 26-year-old has been outstanding since joining Galatasaray permanently in July 2025 for a Turkish-record €75 million — a move that followed a prolific loan spell. He scored 37 goals and provided 8 assists in 41 appearances last season, powering the team to a domestic double and finishing as the Super Lig’s top scorer. His performance in Europe has been equally impressive, with six goals in just three UEFA Champions League matches this season making him one of the hottest strikers on the continent and a realistic target for elite clubs like Real Madrid.

Akwa Ibom Police Debunk Viral Claims of Boko Haram Infiltration, Urge Residents to Stay Calm

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed the viral social media report that claimed that demobilised Boko Haram fighters were relocating to Southern Nigeria. According to the Command, the messages were fake, unfounded, and geared at creating unnecessary panic. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Baba Azare, said there is no intelligence from any security agency to support the claims. “The message is fake, misleading and should be disregarded. The content is purely fabricated to cause fear, panic, and unnecessary tension among members of the public,” she said. The viral reports also claimed that objects embedded with tracking devices were being distributed in public places across states including Lagos, Ilorin, Rivers and others. The Police said these allegations exist only in the imagination of their authors. Security assurance to the residents John assured that the Command has fully activated its security architecture, including surveillance units, patrol teams, tactical squads and community policing structures across all 31 local government areas. The Police urged residents to go about their normal activities without fear, while cautioning against sharing unverified information that could stir panic. However, the Command encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, activities, or movements to the nearest police formation or security outfit. “The cooperation and support of the public remain vital to our collective safety,” the statement added.

Poultry Farming Business Plan: A Complete and Practical Guide for Beginners

If you are thinking of starting a poultry farm, the first thing you need is a poultry farming business plan. Let’s be honest. The idea of starting often begins with a simple, wholesome image: the gentle clucking of hens in a sunny yard, the promise of fresh eggs for the family, or the satisfaction of raising healthy chickens. But in reality, enthusiasm alone won’t pay the bills. A well-thought-out poultry farming business plan is the single most important document you’ll create. It’s your blueprint, your financial roadmap, and the document that convinces banks and investors you’re serious. This article will guide you through a simple but detailed poultry farming business plan you can follow whether you want to raise broilers, layers, or both. Introduction to Poultry Farming Poultry farming has grown to be one of the most profitable businesses in Nigeria that drives economic and social growth. It involves raising domestic birds — chickens, turkeys, ducks, or geese — for meat. It is popular and in high demand in Nigeria because Nigerians consume chicken and eggs all year round. Demands from restaurants, homes, supermarkets, events, bakeries, hotels, and even food vendors increase the demand for and consumption of poultry products in the country. This is why you need a poultry farming business plan before you even begin poultry farming. It helps determine the scale at which your business will operate, the investment you will take, and prepares you for future challenges and helps calculate your cost. You might waste money or time and struggle to scale up if you do not have a business plan. Step 1: Define Your “What” Before you attempt to start a poultry business, you need to have a clear vision. This is the bedrock of your business plan. First of all, What is Your Niche? Poultry farming is a very broad field. Before you begin, you need to know the niche you would specialise in. Do you intend to specialise in: Egg production (also known as layer farming). It involves rearing chickens that lay eggs and selling the eggs. It is highly productive but requires patience. Raising broilers for families, local restaurants, or freezer sales? Mixing both, perhaps with a heritage breed known for good meat and decent egg production, to have a dual source of income. Selling young hens that are already partially grown, saving other small farmers the brooding stage? Your choice here will influence everything else. From the breed you buy, the way you house them and the overall poultry business farming plan you would work with. What Are Your Goals? State both long-term and short-term goals. Ask yourself questions and answer them honestly. Do you intend to run the poultry business as a full-time job or as a side hustle? These would help to shape the trajectory your business would follow. Step 2: Market Research for Poultry Farming This is one important part of the poultry business farming plan that is usually overlooked. You must know and understand your market before you begin your poultry business. Some few tips for the market research include: Know who you are selling to. Not everyone is your customer. You should be able to plan if you would sell directly to consumers at markets or via social media or if you would supply to local cafes or grocery stores. Each of these approaches requires a different approach and marketing strategy. Know the price you would sell at. Go on a market survey to a farmers’ market. See the price eggs and chickens are being sold for. You can also talk to other vendors. This is invaluable in knowing how to sell your products. Survey your potential location/environment. Is there a constant demand for poultry products in your neighbourhood? Is the demand already being met constantly by other vendors? Is the land you hope to purchase affordable? Is that environment safe for birds? Is there space for expansion? Answering these questions would help you know where to set up your poultry business for sustainability and growth. Step 3: Your Startup and Operating Costs You need to be thorough and specific here. This is where the main poultry farming business plan begins. There are certain things you must include in your list for starting up; they include: Land: Do you already have it? If not, factor in lease or purchase costs. Housing and fencing: Cost of building or buying coops, runs, and fencing materials. Equipment: Feeders, waterers, heat lamps, brooders, egg cartons, processing equipment (if for meat). Initial Stock: The cost of your day-old chicks or started pullets. Feed and bedding: For the first few months. Licenses and permits: Check with your local county office. Marketing: Website, signage, market fees. And then your operational costs, best calculated on a monthly basis, include: Feed: This will be your single biggest ongoing expense. Bedding: straw, wood shavings, etc. Utilities: Electricity for brooders and waterers in winter. Healthcare: Basic supplements, vitamins, and a vet fund for emergencies. Marketing and transportation: Fuel to markets, etc. Vaccination and medication. While estimating your costs, be on the higher side. Having much left over is better than running out of funds while executing your poultry farming business plan. Step 4: Setting Up Your Poultry House The nature of your poultry house will determine how successful your poultry business will turn out to be. You need to set up a house that would shield your birds from predators and the harshness of the weather. A good poultry house should be well-ventilated, have dry floors, adequate spacing, proper lighting, feeders and drinkers, and the birds should have access to clean drinking water. The poultry house should always be kept clean and healthy; this reduces the risk of diseases and keeps your birds comfortable. Step 5: Feeding and Vaccination Plan In starting out, it is important you learn how the birds are fed on a daily basis and the types of feed they eat as they grow. For broilers, you feed them for the first 14

Fernandes, Neves Hit Hat-Tricks as Portugal Crush Armenia 9–1 to Seal 2026 World Cup Spot

Bruno Fernandes and Joao Neves both scored hat-tricks as Portugal booked their ticket to the 2026 World Cup with a dominant 9–1 victory over Armenia. Having suffered a shock defeat to the Republic of Ireland in their previous match a game in which captain Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off Portugal needed a win on Sunday to guarantee qualification. They struck early through Renato Veiga, who headed in from a Fernandes free-kick. Armenia briefly hit back when Eduard Spertsyan finished from close range in the 18th minute, but Portugal soon regained control. Goncalo Ramos restored the lead before Neves added two quick goals, including a well-taken free-kick. Portugal then made it 5–1 at the stroke of half-time when Ruben Dias won a penalty that Fernandes calmly converted. Fernandes continued his masterclass in the second half, firing in a low strike before scoring another penalty after Carlos Forbs was fouled. Neves completed his hat-trick with a composed finish from the centre of the box, and Francisco Conceicao capped off the rout with a late drilled effort. With qualification secured, Portugal will now be without Ronaldo for their first two World Cup group matches due to suspension from his earlier red card.

Festive Season Boosts Demand for Children’s Clothing as Retailers Record High Profits

Dressing children in bright, fancy clothes, particularly during festive seasons like Christmas, Eid, and New Year, is a yearly tradition in many homes in Nigeria, signifying joy, prosperity, and family pride. This has resulted in the demand for children’s clothing, from casual and traditional wear to even high-fashion designer clothes. Those entrepreneurs who understand these trends often prepare well in advance by sourcing fabrics and ready-made garments that appeal both to parents and gift buyers. While demand appears to surge in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, the festive period has developed as one of the most profitable windows for established and emerging retailers. For Toyin Akorede, a seller of clothes who travels all the way from Ijebu Ode to source merchandise to retail at Lagos’ Balogun Market, the business is quite rewarding. “I sell children’s clothes and make at least N2,000 on each wear. If I sell 10 pieces a day, that is N20,000 profit,” she said, adding that selling clothes is far less complicated than forex trading. Azeezat Abdul, another seller, emphasized the diversity within the children’s clothing market. “You have to decide on a specific segment that you want to sell, whether corporate outfits or casual wear, and many others,” she clarified. She asserted that a retail location is very critical for success, recommending high-traffic ones for better sales. Abdul insisted that any business can thrive on consistent patronage. “Selling clothes is lucrative, and it can become a well-paying full-time job depending on the time and experience you invest,” she said. Where Retailers Source Their Stock The popular sourcing hub for products, according to Abdul, includes Balogun Market, Idumota Market, and Mandela’s. She prefers the latter because it affords her a variety from which to choose. For Aburimen Cyril, founder of C.dot Clothing and a 15-year industry veteran, the business remains very lucrative. He stated that he makes at least N2,000 profit from each clothing item he sells. “If I buy an item for N10,000 and sell 10 units at N12,000 each, that’s N20,000 profit for the day,” he said. Cyril’s retail strategy is to select a mall for its diverse customer base and to ensure high quality because of demand from clients abroad. He sources directly from importers of German, Turkish, and Vietnamese T-shirts to avoid middlemen and allow him to keep prices competitive. Experience Matters Cyril emphasized that entering the clothing business essentially needed mentorship and industry knowledge. One has to be sure about quality, types of fabric, market specifications, and the like, he added. Advice to Budding Entrepreneurs He advised potential investors to be prudent with their finances. “Business has its ups and downs. Some days you sell a lot, and other days are slow. Don’t spend more than you make if you want to stay afloat,” he cautioned.

Kefas Shuts Disputed Mosque in Taraba After Deadly Clash, Orders Construction of Three New Worship Centres

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has ordered the temporary closure of the disputed Jumma’at Mosque in the Donga Local Government Area following a violent clash that claimed two lives and left several others injured. The directive was issued during an expanded peace meeting held at the Palace of Gara Donga, the traditional ruler of the town. The meeting brought together traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders, youth groups, and representatives from various Muslim sects to address the crisis. Governor Kefas, who was out of the state on official duty when the incident occurred, reiterated the commitment of his administration toward ensuring peace, unity, and religious harmony throughout the state. He said the closure was a necessary step to calm tensions and allow for lasting solutions to the long-standing dispute among Muslim factions in the area. In this regard, the governor declared that the Traditional Council’s Mosque would not be opened until the government constructs three new mosques for Izala-Jos, Izala-Kaduna, and Darika sects to ensure fairness and freedom of worship. “This is to ensure fairness, peace, and freedom of worship for all groups. And let me assure you that our Christian brothers under CAN would not be forgotten in the spirit of balance and mutual respect,” Kefas said. He emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any action capable of disrupting the peace and stability of the state. “No faith teaches hatred. Religion is meant to draw us closer to God and to one another, not to divide us. Justice is the foundation of peace, and that is what we stand for,” he said. He called on all sides to accept his call for dialogue and forgiveness, saying, “Peace is more valuable than anything. Without peace, there can be no progress, no development, and no unity. Let us guard it with love, patience, and understanding.” Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Council, Malam Musa praised the governor for his fairness and wisdom, saying that the decision was “a step guided by wisdom.” The religious leaders present, including Malam Rabiu of the Darika sect, Malam Sabo of Izala-Jos, and Malam Ma’awiyya, chairman of the Council of Scholars of Izala-Kaduna, thanked the governor for his intervention and promised that they were now committed to peace. The Gara Donga also praised the governor for choosing dialogue over division, reiterating the commitment of the traditional council toward the sustainability of peace in Donga and beyond. The meeting closed with a joint prayer session where both the Muslim and Christian representatives prayed for divine guidance and lasting peace across Taraba State.

Nigeria Reacts as Trump Re-Designates Country a ‘Nation of Particular Concern’ Over Alleged Christian Killings

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to fighting terrorism, violent extremism, and ensuring the protection of all citizens irrespective of their religious backgrounds, following the re-designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the then U.S. President Donald Trump over alleged killings of Christians. In a statement released on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ibienfa, the government declared that it has taken note of the U.S. action and remains committed to securing the nation. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused Islamist terrorists of perpetrating widespread massacres of Christians in Nigeria, adding that “Christianity is facing an existential threat.” He called for U.S. lawmakers to investigate the matter, adding that “America will not stand by while such atrocities happen.” Reacting, Nigeria dismissed the narrative of religious persecution, insisting that the violence ravaging parts of the country stems from insurgency and criminality affecting both Christians and Muslims. “We remain committed to tackling violent extremism driven by special interests across West Africa and the Sahel. The Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to defend all citizens, irrespective of race, creed, or religion,” the statement read. He also repeated that Nigeria is committed to religious tolerance and to partnership with its allies, like the United States, in promoting peace and stability. Nigeria was, for the first time, designated a CPC by the Trump administration in December 2020 but was removed from the listing by the Biden administration in 2021—a move that engendered criticism from U.S. lawmakers and human rights advocates. However, a new bill in 2025, the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act, revived calls for Nigeria’s reinstatement due to ongoing violence and alleged government inaction. The re-designation, even though Abuja has continued to reject the label, may have a diplomatic implication-for instance, the imposition of sanctions or travel restrictions on those linked to alleged abuses.
