CDS Musa Urges Increased Collaboration Between Security Institutions and Traditional Rulers for Peace in Northern Nigeria

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has emphasized the need for increased collaboration among the security agencies and traditional rulers in ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the North.

At his address to the General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, General Musa underscored the critical role of traditional institutions in governance and societal unity.

“Traditional leaders are indeed the pillar of governance and the first line of interaction between the government and the people,” he stated, and further that their wisdom and moral stature render them principal players in conflict resolution, mediation and early warning against security threats.”.

The CDS commended traditional rulers for their sustained efforts towards peace and integration, saying their collaboration with security agencies has been a decisive factor in preventing crises and promoting stability in the region.

With the theme “Strengthening Community Collaboration for Lasting Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria,” the assembly focused on crafting alliances to fight insecurity and promote development.

General Musa reemphasized the Armed Forces’ commitment to the defense of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the protection of its citizens.

“We advocate a whole-of-society approach to security that involves traditional institutions, community leaders, youth and women’s organizations, religious institutions, and government institutions,” he said. “Collectively, we can replace the stories of violence and discord with those of hope, tolerance, and respect for each other.”.

The conference brought together traditional leaders from throughout Northern Nigeria to discuss common issues and reaffirm peace, unity, and development in the area.
