The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), working jointly with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has intercepted 2,374 packages of Canadian Loud an expensive strain of cannabis concealed inside imported vehicles at the Lagos Port.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, said the drugs were hidden in 55 bags inside a container marked FCIU 6369526, which carried two vehicles. The seized cannabis weighed a total of 1,187kg, with each sachet packed in 500 grams.

Sulaiman credited the operation’s success to credible intelligence and strong inter-agency collaboration.

“Barely five days after uncovering 25.5kg of cocaine on a Brazilian vessel, the NCS and NDLEA have again intercepted Canadian Loud concealed inside imported vehicles,” he said.

He added that the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, praised the teamwork between both agencies and reaffirmed the Service’s firm stance against smuggling and drug trafficking.

“Few days ago, the CAC made it clear that no consignment will exit the port without thorough checks. Our synergy as government agencies will continue to put us ahead of criminal elements. Regardless of the volume of trade we process, we will never compromise national security,” Sulaiman noted.

He further warned that anyone importers, exporters, freight forwarders, or licensed agents attempting to exploit the busy Yuletide season for illegal activities would face severe consequences.

Investigations have begun to identify and prosecute everyone connected to the latest seizure, the PRO added.
