Music mogul Don Jazzy has revealed he came close to abandoning his career entirely following the painful breakup of Mo’Hits Records in 2012.
In a candid chat with Rolling Stone, the Mavin Records boss admitted the split with his longtime partner D’banj hit him so hard that he seriously considered relocating abroad and walking away from the industry.
“When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born.
Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” he shared.
The legendary producer described the period as one of the darkest moments of his career, but said it taught him invaluable lessons about resilience and moving forward despite setbacks.
Instead of giving up, Don Jazzy channeled his pain into building Mavin Records, which has become one of Africa’s most dominant music labels.
The powerhouse roster includes global stars like Rema, Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, and formerly Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal.
His persistence paid off massively in 2024 when Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most successful music executives.
