DSS Denies Arresting Evangelist Over Viral Fulani Herdsmen Alarm

The DSS denied reports that it arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel over a viral video where he alleged that Fulani herders invaded a crusade ground in Nasarawa State.

Ukpo, who made the allegation in a Facebook post, was reportedly arrested by the Police and not the DSS after raising what the authorities described as a false alarm.

A statement signed by its Deputy Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Favour Dozie, dismissed the claim that the agency detained the evangelist. The Service said the report was false, misleading, and was meant to present the DSS in a negative light as well as whip up unnecessary tension among the populace.

The DSS has noted, with dismay, a false and misleading Facebook post, which alleged that it arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for raising a false alarm in a video claiming that Fulani herdsmen attacked a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.

“This is not correct. For the record, Evangelist Ukpo Daniel was never invited, let alone arrested by the DSS. His wife, Elizabeth, who created the post, when contacted, affirmed that she was with him at the Police Headquarters in Lafia,” the statement said.

The DSS warned that such misinformation could inflame public tension or interfere with ongoing operations. It urged Nigerians to rely only on verified information and official communication channels to avoid the spread of disinformation capable of undermining national security.
