DSS Summons Datti Baba-Ahmed Over ‘Inciting’ Remarks Against Government

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly invited Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, over comments deemed potentially inciting against the Nigerian state.

Security sources, quoted by analyst Zagazola Makama, expressed concern about Baba-Ahmed’s recent media appearances, where he has repeatedly warned of what he describes as a “constitutional crisis” in Nigeria.

According to one source, Baba-Ahmed recently appeared on national television accusing the judiciary and military of failing to stop the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

He also allegedly made remarks suggesting the current administration has emboldened the military to “look you in the face and call you bloody fools.”

The security official warned that such language could inflame tensions in an already fragile political climate, drawing comparisons to political instability in countries like Guinea-Bissau.

“This has nothing to do with politics,” the source said. “The corporate existence of our nation could be threatened if this kind of rhetoric continues unchecked.”

The DSS invitation, according to the source, follows standard protocol and is meant to clarify the senator’s intentions while preventing his statements from sparking unrest or undermining public confidence in national institutions.

“These interactions are preventive, not punitive,” the source explained. “They help ensure that public comments do not unintentionally fuel crises or undermine the security efforts of the country.”
