EFCC Warns Nigerian Fraudsters Now Mixing Cybercrime with Rituals in Alarming New Trend

Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency has sounded the alarm over a troubling evolution in internet fraud, as scammers increasingly combine digital schemes with spiritual rituals to enhance their criminal operations.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed on Friday, October 17, that many internet fraudsters, commonly called Yahoo Boys, are now embracing ritual practices alongside their online scams, earning them the new nickname “G Boys.”

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the agency expressed concern that what began as purely digital crime has taken a darker turn, with fraudsters seeking supernatural means to accelerate their pursuit of illegal wealth.

“G Boys are now going spiritual, involving themselves in rituals and making it the new usual. EFCC will come for any individual, then, it won’t be business as usual,” the commission warned.

The agency directly addressed Nigerian youth, urging them to reject both cybercrime and the growing culture of using spiritual methods to gain quick money.

The EFCC made it clear that no ritual or spiritual practice would protect offenders from facing the law.

The commission reaffirmed its determination to crack down harder on internet scammers and protect Nigerians from the harmful impact of these criminal activities.

It pledged to pursue all offenders regardless of whatever supernatural protection they believe they have, promising to bring them to justice and safeguard society from the dangers of evolving cybercrime tactics.
