Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has strongly condemned the recent bandit attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa local government areas, which resulted in the deaths of three people and the abduction of several women and children.
In a statement signed by his former Chief of Staff and ex-Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the incidents as tragic, painful and deeply distressing, noting that they pose a serious threat to communal peace and stability.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the affected communities, stressing that the emotional toll of the attacks demands urgent support and coordinated efforts from security stakeholders. Ganduje warned that the deteriorating situation can no longer be ignored.
He urged the Kano State government to adopt proactive and intelligence-driven security strategies, recommending approaches used during his administration from 2015 to 2023. These include strengthened vigilance groups, community policing, improved intelligence sharing, and stronger collaboration with security agencies.
Ganduje noted that such measures helped curb rural banditry and reduce urban crime during his tenure. He also commended the governments of Niger, Kwara, Kebbi and other states for their swift responses to similar security threats, praising their effective interventions and community engagement.
The former governor lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to modernising the nation’s security architecture and enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies, describing it as clear evidence of strong political will to secure the country.
He appealed to residents of Shanono and Tsanyawa to remain calm but vigilant, encouraging close cooperation with security operatives and timely reporting of suspicious activities. Ganduje emphasised that tackling insecurity is a collective responsibility involving citizens, traditional leaders, government and security agencies.
He assured the affected communities that leaders at all levels remain committed to restoring peace and security in the area.
