Humanitarian Collins Onyeaji Distributes School Materials, Urges Nigerians to Join Fight Against Illiteracy

Nigeria

Abuja humanitarian Collins Onyeaji has called on Nigerians to collaborate with government at all levels to tackle illiteracy at the grassroots, reduce insecurity, and empower youths with skills for national development.

Onyeaji took the decision on Friday as part of a visit to Central County School and Community Primary School, Amaodumu Omuma, in Imo State’s Oru East Local Government Area, where over 200 packs of back-to-school packages were donated to pupils. His people also arrived at Migrant Farmers’ Children Primary School, Ozuh Omuma, where 150 packs of school packages were donated.

Accepting the economic struggle of most families, Onyeaji added that education should not be the responsibility of parents or government only. “We have come to a point in Nigeria where everybody must get their hands together with the government and support each other in the interest of our country’s growth. This token of our dedication is to see children not kept out of classrooms but encouraged to learn, and simplify the load on parents,” he said.

The program, in the “Renovate and Equip Project,” aims to support 10,000 pupils in 586 primary schools across 95 local government councils in the five South-East states. Materials distributed are exercise books, school bags, and other learning basics.

Head teacher, Amaodumu Omuma, of the Community Primary School, Mrs. Racheal Ojini, welcomed the gesture as the first of its nature this academic session and prayed that God’s face should smile on Onyeaji. Central County School head teacher, Mrs. Happiness Ugoala, also praised the act, stating that it had eased parents the financial weight.

Onyeaji also explained that in addition to provision of materials, the “Renovate and Equip Schools” initiative will assist in renovating dilapidated buildings in public schools, thus enabling students to study in a conducive and safe environment.
