The Imo State Police Command has arrested five men who allegedly perpetrated the brutal assault of Mrs. Ndididamaka Agu in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, who confirmed the arrest on Monday, gave the names of the suspects as Onyekachi Njoku, 40; Chiazor Osuji, 45; Chukwuma Iwuala, 46; Eugene Njoku; and Njoku Emmanuel, 35, all residing in Uboegbelu, Emekuku.

It is understood a sixth suspect, Onyedikachi Njoku, is on the run, and a manhunt to bring him in has been launched.

The arrests came after a directive issued by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, on November 3, 2025, for a detailed investigation into a viral video that showed six men repeatedly assaulting Mrs. Agu despite warnings from another woman.

According to Okoye, operatives of the X-Squad Unit tracked and detained the five suspects, who, he said, have all confessed to being part of the attack. He added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.

CP Danjuma strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing that the police will not tolerate intimidation and harassment of citizens who lawfully cooperate with security agencies. According to Okoye, the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
