Kano Government Calls for Ganduje’s Arrest Over Alleged Illegal Militia Plan

The Kano State Government has called on security agencies to investigate and arrest former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his alleged plan to set up an illegal militia group in the state.

The controversy began after Ganduje announced plans to create a Hisbah-style volunteer force through the Ganduje Foundation, following the dismissal of 12,000 personnel from the Kano State Hisbah Board.

According to report, while speaking after the 34th State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs Ibrahim Waiya strongly condemned the move.

He said Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin had made statements claiming Kano was at risk of banditry, while proposing to recruit thousands of youths into a religious security outfit called Khairul Nas.

Waiya described the comments as “inciting and reckless,” warning that they could undermine ongoing security efforts by both the state and federal government.

The Commissioner also revealed that within 48 hours of the statements, suspected bandits attacked border communities in Kano, raising questions about whether the comments were deliberately provocative.

He thanked the Federal Government and security agencies for their support in keeping the state safe, while urging politicians to avoid making remarks that could create tension or destabilize the peace.

Waiya reassured residents that the current administration is committed to protecting lives and property and will not allow any action that threatens public safety.
