Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged the Federal Government to withdraw the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, for partisanship and being unprofessional.

In his speech at the 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf lamented the withdrawal of the Police Command from the parade as “an affront to the people of Kano and the spirit of national unity.”.

“Come and witness, on this historic Independence anniversary the Commissioner of Police had decided to pull out of the parade with his men. This act was embarrassing to the people and government of Kano. As the Chief Security Officer of this state, I condemn this unprofessional and partisan act,” he stated.

The governor also demanded that Kano is peaceful and residents had been waiting in anticipation to celebrate. He praised other security agencies for adding but claimed the action of the police commissioner was political and contrary to the constitution.

“You can see I even used my own pilot car to move around. This is unethical. This is disloyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Yusuf added.

He demanded security organs to remain out of politics and non-partisan, citing that such statements undermine their constitutional role.

“I am summoning President Tinubu to forthwith pull out the Commissioner of Police from Kano. I will also send a formal petition via the office of the National Security Adviser. Kano citizens are peaceful and we wish for the progress of Nigeria into unity,” the governor continued.

The Kano State Command of Police has not yet responded to the governor’s appeal.
