The Kwara State government declared the scrapping of parent-teacher association (PTA) levies in all public primary schools across the state and substituting them with school grants annually to be used as running expenses.
Making this public in Ilorin while opening bids for the 2024 (3rd and 4th quarters) UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects, the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Shehu Adaramaja, clarified.
“The governor has waived PTA charges in all the state’s public primary schools. No PTA fee for Primary 1 to 6, no PTA fee in Kwara State,” Adaramaja declared.
It was revealed by him on payment of grants to at least 1,717 public schools with effect from today and Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq approving the purchase of English and Mathematics textbooks for free distribution to students from Primary 1 to 6.
Continuing in details, Adaramaja stated that the intervention projects would span a chain of key sectors such as classroom and renovation works, VIP toilets, drilling of solar-powered boreholes, digital literacy rehabilitation, acquisition of teaching materials, and provision of two-seater pieces of furniture for pupils under the Safe Schools Initiative.
He added that the governor had instructed payment of the 2025 counterpart funds for UBEC/SUBEB projects and called on contractors to work to specification, while stating that substandard work would not be accepted.
Adaramaja further praised UBEC’s executive secretary, Hajiya Aisha Garba, among other stakeholders, for making the programme a success.
