Nollywood actress Laide Bakare is facing serious criticism after revealing she personally introduced her teenage daughter to nightclubs and alcohol.
In a recent interview with Mr. Lilgaga, Bakare defended her decision, explaining that she believes 17 and 18 are pivotal ages when young people should start experiencing the real world, under proper guidance.
“I’m the first person that will bring her to a club. That was her first club experience ever. I love the fact that in her memory, she will say my very first clubbing and alcoholic drink was from my mum,” the actress said.
Bakare also responded to online comments about her daughter Simisola’s physical appearance, clarifying that it’s simply genetics. “She’s 17 now, that’s just how we are in our family. Even me, I’m 44,” she explained.
The controversy comes on the heels of Bakare celebrating Simisola’s academic achievements, her daughter graduated high school in Canada at just 16 with an impressive 4.80 GPA.
During the same conversation, the actress opened up about her love life, admitting she’s skeptical about romance.
“I doubt if I can fall in love. Money and love together, that combo must be complete. I’ve been broke, I’ve been down, and I came back again,” she shared.
The revelation has divided social media, with some praising her honesty and others questioning whether exposing a minor to alcohol and nightlife is responsible parenting, regardless of intent.
