The family of the deceased Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has asked his widow, Wunmi, to refrain from using Aloba as her surname until a DNA test determines whether her son, Liam, is her husband’s biological child.
According to a statement signed by Adedara Aloba, head of the Aloba family, and Joseph Aloba, a principal member of the family, this is to ensure justice, transparency, and accountability concerning the management of the legendary singer’s legacy.
For the legal management of Mohbad’s estate, the family appointed Samuel Ajewole Aloba, Engr. Ayodele Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Mrs. Alonge Ibukun Oluwaseun Aloba as estate administrators. A place has also been set aside for Wunmi in case of a positive result from a DNA test to certify that Liam is indeed Mohbad’s son.
“These administrators are authorised to apply forthwith for Letters of Administration from the Probate Registry to administer all assets of the estate, including royalties, bank accounts, property, as well as musical intellectual property rights,” said the statement.
The family further explained that in respect of Mohbad and Wunmi, neither statutory nor customary marriage took place between them, as customary processes such as payment of bridewealth were also not undertaken.
In addition, they appointed Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq. of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys as their only legal representative in relation to DNA, as well as estate issues, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, is to continue to supervise interactions with investigative agencies in relation to the inquiry into Mohbad’s death.
The press statement indicated that a date for the burial of the deceased artiste, as well as his memorial, shall be communicated after the internal processes, as well as issues pertaining to DNA, have been addressed.
