“My Daughter Was Murdered”: Arise TV Reporter’s Father Rejects Official Account of Her Death

The father of slain Arise TV journalist Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu is demanding answers, insisting his daughter was murdered and didn’t die the way authorities claimed.

In an emotional interview with BBC Igbo, Engineer Ifeanyi Maduagwu dismissed reports that his daughter jumped from a building during an armed robbery, saying the story doesn’t add up.

“I know my daughter. Sommie would never jump from a storey building just because she saw armed robbers. Something isn’t right. My daughter was murdered,” he said firmly.

The tragedy unfolded in September at Katampe, Abuja, where initial reports suggested Sommie died during a robbery at her home. But her father believes there’s more to the story.

Engr. Maduagwu was working offshore when he received a frantic call from a friend saying his daughter had been “injured” and he needed to come immediately.

Shortly after, his son in Budapest called asking what happened.

When the father explained what he’d been told, that Sommie was hurt in a robbery, his son broke down and delivered the crushing news: Sommie was already dead.

Fighting back tears, the grieving father is now calling for a full investigation into his daughter’s death, convinced the truth has yet to come out.

The young reporter’s passing has left her family searching for answers and justice for a life cut tragically short.
