NDLEA Arrests Businessman at Kano Airport With 127 Wraps of Cocaine, Intercepts Multiple Drug Shipments Across Nigeria

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for importing 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his stomach and private area.o

In a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Ejiofor, who has boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was apprehended upon arrival in Bangkok, Thailand, on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, based on intelligence.

A scan of his body proved that he had consumed and hidden illegal drugs internally. Operatives were able to recover 58 wraps of cocaine from his undergarments immediately, with a further 69 pellets being egested within days through observation of excretion to make a total of 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms.

In connected operations, NDLEA agents in Lagos intercepted three various consignments of drugs heading to the United Kingdom on the 9th and 10th of October. The intercepted drugs included 1.74kg methamphetamine hidden inside glass ceramics, pentazocine and tramadol injections in parcels, and tramadol capsules disguised as Vitamin C tablets.

There were also other attempts that were thwarted, such as 2.6kg of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol tablets stuffed inside black soap to be sent to Turkey, 169 grams of cocaine stuffed into handbags for Australia, and 568 grams of Loud (an extremely strong variety of cannabis) packed in herbal containers to be shipped to the United Arab Emirates.

At the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 27,510 tablets of rohypnol concealed in alcoholic drinks sachets bound for South Africa. The agency arrested a freight agent, a cab driver, and later the so-called mastermind, 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, alias Yellow, at Oyingbo Market.

On the same day, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, was arrested by agents for attempting to export 3,700 tramadol tablets and 2,600 tapentadol pills hidden in foodstuffs to Italy. He confessed that he was smuggling the drugs for a fee of €945.

In Edo State, a raid on the home of 33-year-old Emmanuel Sunday in Ugbekpe Ekperi, Etsako Central LGA resulted in the recovery of 47kg of skunk. In Osun State, two middle-aged men Nureni Ayobami Eleweodo, aged 48, and Oladejo Taiwo, aged 52 were arrested with 635kg of skunk, while two others, Timothy Omiwole, aged 41, and Isaac Achiatan, aged 36, were arrested with 100kg of the same.n

NDLEA officials also made arrests at Port Harcourt, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States, confiscating massive quantities of tramadol, cannabis, and other substances. During a specific arrest, 150,000 capsules of Exol-5 were also recovered from one suspect, Rufai Ahmed (alias Farin Malam), at the toll gate along Abuja-Kaduna.

Across the country, NDLEA commands continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) msensitisation exercises in schools, places of worship, mosques, and communities with Adamawa, Ebonyi, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Anambra, Rivers, Kano, and Osun States hosting the exercises.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig.  Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), thanked the operators for their professionalism and resilience, calling on them to keep up the good work in the service of Nigeria’s drug control drive.
