Niger CAN Confirms 50 Abducted Students Escape, Reunite With Families

The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has confirmed that 50 of the 315 students abducted by bandits on Friday from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, have escaped.

Daniel Atori, Media Aide to the Bishop of Kontagora Catholic Diocese and Chairman of CAN in Niger, disclosed on Sunday that the students who fled between Friday and Saturday have since returned home to their families.

“At first, they couldn’t return to the school after escaping, but we were able to confirm the development when we visited some parents,” Atori said.

He added that despite the positive news, 251 primary school pupils, 14 secondary school students and 12 teachers remain in captivity.
