Nigeria Police Halt Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement After Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force has suspended enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits following a court order that put the controversial exercise on hold.

SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, confirmed the news during a Wednesday interview on AIT, saying the suspension took effect immediately after the police received the court order.

“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” she said.

The enforcement will stay suspended until the court case wraps up. “We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” Adeh added.

Adeh pushed back against criticism of the regulation, explaining it was introduced to tackle a real security problem, not to harass drivers.

“The law was not made by us; we are only enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven.

Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit crimes, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she said.

She also shot down accusations that the permit system was a money-making scheme for the police.

All permit payments go straight into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), not police coffers, she clarified.

For now, motorists can breathe easier. The tinted glass crackdown is on pause until the court has its final say.
