The Oyo State Police Command said it is committed to ensuring full security coverage for delegates to the Peoples Democratic Party’s elective national convention starting Saturday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The police spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, said the Command has intensified security measures to ensure that the event would be safe and peaceful for top political leaders, international observers, invited guests, party members, and media personnel from different parts of the country.
He said the Command, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, has evolved an elaborate security arrangement comprising proactive patrols to reassure the public, increased surveillance, and intelligence-led stop-and-search actions across the state.
He said there would be an increased security presence at all major entry and exit points into Oyo State, especially around the venue of the convention. Other public places that would enjoy close monitoring during the convention period include parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport.
Osifeso urged residents to make use of alternative routes around the stadium to avoid disruptions in movement, warning that unauthorized rallies or gatherings before, during, or after the convention would not be tolerated. He further called on the public for vigilance, adherence to security instructions, and timely reporting of suspicious activities at the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
