Panic in Ilorin as Armed Robbers Shoot, Cart Away Millions in Broad Daylight

There was chaos in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday when a four-man armed robbery gang launched a violent attack, shooting their way to snatch several millions of naira from an unsuspecting victim.

The robbery occurred along Muritala Muhammed Way, directly opposite the Newspapers Correspondents’ offices. The assailants, all masked, arrived in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with a faded number plate.

According to eyewitnesses, the gang had likely trailed their victim before opening fire. The gunmen targeted the victim’s grey Toyota Sienna, with registration number AA 693 GT, shooting repeatedly from behind to deflate the two left tyres.

Forced to halt, the victim was confronted by three armed men who emerged from the Corolla, while a fourth stayed behind the wheel ready for a quick escape. The robbers fired several shots into the air, throwing the busy commercial area into panic.

Stray bullets struck the victim on the arm and pierced through the Sienna’s front and rear windshields. The attackers then transferred four large cartons filled with cash from the victim’s vehicle into their own car before fleeing the scene.

One eyewitness lamented that no police officers were sighted during or after the robbery.

As of the time of filing this report, attempts to obtain a reaction from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful.
