The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike expelled several high-ranking party members, including three sitting governors.
During a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, the Wike-aligned faction announced the removal of:
- Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo State)
-
Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State)
-
Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State)
The faction also expelled former Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice Chairman Chief Bode George, and newly elected National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN.
This action comes just days after the rival faction expelled Wike and his supporters during a contentious national convention in Ibadan on Saturday.
The split within the PDP became starkly visible as both factions converged on the party’s national headquarters at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.
Each group held its own NEC and Board of Trustees meetings, with both sides claiming legitimacy.
The Wike-backed NEC went further by dissolving party executive councils in six states: Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti.
The faction ordered the formation of caretaker committees and mandated fresh congresses in these states.
Reading the communiqué, factional National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu said Acting National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed cited multiple violations, including:
- Breaching Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the party constitution
-
Engaging in anti-party activities
-
Disobeying court orders
-
Damaging the party’s reputation
The statement also listed additional party leaders facing disciplinary action, including Taofiq Arapaja, Udom Emmanuel, and several others.
