The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects in the aftermath of the recent violent crisis that enveloped Umuchigbo-Nike, in Enugu East Local Government Area, where two brothers were killed and properties, including houses and vehicles, were destroyed.

The police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said that initial investigations showed the violence was caused by a lingering leadership crisis in the community. It was further reported that the killing of the two brothers by one of the factions triggered an attack by the opposing faction, which led to five residential buildings and several vehicles being burnt.

Ndukwe confirmed that normalcy has since been restored, with security operatives maintaining peace in the area. He quoted the State Commissioner of Police as warning that “acts of violence under any guise will not be tolerated in Enugu State.”
