Reno Omokri has criticized Peter Obi following the Labour Party leader’s recent comments questioning whether Nigeria is cursed due to worsening insecurity across the country.
Obi had posted on X with the headline “Is Nigeria cursed or are we the curse?”, expressing concern over rising kidnappings, including attacks on schoolchildren.
The post sparked heated debate online, with Omokri launching a sharp rebuttal.
The political commentator and Tinubu supporter rejected Obi’s framing of Nigeria’s challenges in spiritual terms, questioning why someone who sought to lead the nation would describe it as cursed.
“Nigeria is not cursed, as Peter Obi claims! How can you even say that? So you want to govern a cursed nation? This is 2025. Emancipate your mind from superstition,” Omokri wrote on X.
He dismissed the idea that curses have any real power over national issues, adding sarcastically that if curses worked, Obi would have already suffered consequences from criticisms leveled against him during his time as Anambra State governor.
“Curses do not work. If they do, all the curses piled on you by the people of Anambra for the eight years that you misgoverned them,” Omokri said, referencing longstanding allegations that Obi prioritized private business ventures over public services like education.
Moving beyond the spiritual argument, Omokri claimed Nigeria’s security problems are worsened by political leaders who he described as “enablers of terrorists.”
He accused Obi of inconsistency regarding Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB, pointing to past statements where Obi insisted that “IPOB are not terrorists” despite condemning violence against soldiers in Abia State.
Omokri suggested that such positions undermine national security efforts and contribute to the ongoing crisis.
Wrapping up his critique, Omokri said if Obi wants to understand Nigeria’s insecurity challenges, he should look inward rather than blame supernatural forces.
“Buy a mirror,” he advised, suggesting that double standards among politicians are part of the problem.
