Vice President Kashim Shettima left Abuja for Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit. This is following an earlier decision by President Tinubu to stay in Nigeria and take updates, as well as security briefings, on recent violent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States.
This is according to a statement by Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, who said that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current President of the G20, invited President Tinubu to attend this year’s summit. To be held from 22 to 23 November at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, leaders of the world’s major economies will attend, among them representatives of the European Union, African Union, and major global financial institutions. Nkwocha added that the Vice President is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the summit’s engagements.
