President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss ongoing efforts aimed at securing the release of the convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The meeting comes just days after Governor Otti visited Kanu at the Sokoto prison facility where he is serving his sentence. Otti was accompanied during that visit by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney-General, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials of the Sokoto State Government were also present.
Governor Otti had previously declared that securing Kanu’s release remained a top priority for his administration.
“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” he stated through his media aide.
Tuesday’s meeting with the President is widely seen as part of that strategy, as the governor continues to push for both political and legal pathways that could lead to Kanu’s eventual release.
