President Bola Tinubu has dispatched congratulatory messages to Sanae Takaichi following her historic ascension as Japan’s first woman Prime Minister, referring to it as a celebration of her decades of commitment and service to the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japanese government.

In a letter personally signed, Tinubu conveyed the warmest regards of the government and people of Nigeria, citing that the victory of Takaichi is an expression of the faith and trust of the Japanese in her leadership.

“As you take up this mandate, rest assured of the renewed goodwill and support of Nigeria towards Japan,” President Buhari stated. “Our two countries have had a long and great history of relations in areas of cooperation for a long time. I hope to work with you in taking the relations to greater heights and deepening and strengthening the relations to the benefit of our two nations.”

Tinubu expressed confidence that under Takaichi’s “capable and visionary leadership,” relations between Nigeria and Japan would continue to thrive, while wishing her success, good health, and well-being.
