President Bola Tinubu on Monday met separately with Rivers State governor, Similayi Fubara, and Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, in what appeared to be quiet but significant moves amid growing political drama.
Governor Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5:01 p.m., looking calm but focused as he was ushered into the President’s office by the Presidential Protocol Liaison Officer. With political tension rising back home especially questions about his future in the PDP his visit drew attention.
After spending roughly 45 minutes with the President, Fubara left without saying a word to journalists, leaving many to guess what the conversation behind closed doors might have been about.
Earlier in the day, Governor Nwifuru of Ebonyi had also slipped into the Villa for his own private meeting with Tinubu. Like Fubara, he did not reveal what was discussed.
Tinubu’s meeting with Fubara came just days after 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly defected from the PDP to the APC a move that has stirred fresh tension and speculation about the political direction of the state.
