Tinubu Suspends Foreign Trips Over Kebbi Abductions, Kwara Church Attack

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned official visits to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive further security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the deadly attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

Following a request from the Kwara State governor, the President ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the Nigeria Police to pursue and apprehend the attackers.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu had been scheduled to depart Abuja on Wednesday for the 20th G20 Summit of Leaders in South Africa and later proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, the President suspended the trip due to rising security concerns in Kebbi and the Monday attack in Kwara.

He is now awaiting briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the situation in Kwara.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to do everything necessary to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.
