Tinubu Taking Bold Steps to Fix Economy, Boost Security – Information Minister

Tinubu

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deliberately taking tough but necessary steps to stabilise Nigeria’s economy, improve national security, and set the country on a path of long-term growth and prosperity.

Idris made this known on Friday night while addressing leaders and members of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups at a dinner held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja. He thanked the groups for their loyalty and continued backing, describing them as a strong pillar of the party’s success.

According to the minister, the APC assumed office at a challenging moment in Nigeria’s history, making it unavoidable to take bold decisions to tackle deep-rooted economic and security problems, while keeping the nation’s future firmly in view.

He noted that the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda is already yielding positive results, including rising investor confidence, increased oil production, improved revenue generation, and targeted interventions to support states, businesses, and vulnerable Nigerians.

Idris stressed that clear communication and constant engagement with citizens remain central to the government’s approach, saying reforms must be well explained for Nigerians to understand their purpose and benefits.

He also drew attention to the N58.18 trillion 2026 budget recently presented by President Tinubu to the National Assembly, pointing out that Defence and Security, Infrastructure, Education, and Health were given top priority.

Quoting the President, Idris explained that the four sectors are closely connected: security encourages investment, education and health improve productivity, while infrastructure creates jobs and supports business growth.

On security, the minister said the 2026 plans include modernising the armed forces, strengthening intelligence-led policing, improving border security, deploying advanced surveillance technology, and promoting peacebuilding and conflict prevention at the community level.

He described APC support groups as more than election-time mobilisers, saying they play a vital role in defending facts, countering misinformation, and helping Nigerians understand government policies.

Idris urged them to actively support and promote the 2026 budget, tagged the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” and to help explain its goals to the public.

“As ambassadors of our party, your role in mobilising, informing and building public confidence in our policies is more important than ever,” he said.

He assured the support groups that their efforts and sacrifices are recognised, adding that the government and the party remain committed to fairness, inclusion, and rewarding hard work. The minister called for unity and renewed commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging party members to continue supporting President Tinubu in building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.
