Wendy Osefo Reportedly Fired from Wesleyan University After Fraud Charges

Dr. Wendy Osefo, the outspoken “Real Housewives of Potomac” star and academic, has reportedly lost her teaching position at Wesleyan University following serious fraud allegations.

The Nigerian-American professor’s dismissal comes on the heels of her arrest alongside her husband, Eddie Osefo, on October 9, 2025.

The couple is facing 34 criminal counts, including conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and lying to police, charges that could dramatically alter the trajectory of Osefo’s once-promising career.

At the heart of the case is an alleged staged burglary at their home in April 2024.

Prosecutors claim the couple falsely reported that designer goods and jewelry valued at approximately $500,000 had been stolen.

Osefo had just begun teaching at Wesleyan last fall, where she led a provocative course called “The Sociology of Reality TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia”,  subject that bridged her academic expertise with her reality TV fame.

Before joining Wesleyan, she held a tenured position at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, which she left in 2024.

Her academic credentials are impressive: degrees from Temple University and Johns Hopkins, plus a Ph.D. in Public Affairs and Community Development from Rutgers University.

Those qualifications helped establish her as both a respected scholar and a political commentator before reality television brought her into millions of homes through Bravo’s hit franchise.
