Police Chief Breaks Down Why Sowore Is Still Behind Bars

Reports shows Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle from the Special Intervention Squad finally addressing the elephant in the room on Friday, speaking to a crowd of protesters and journalists who have been demanding answers about why the activist is still locked up.

According to Shogunle, it all boils down to one thing: Sowore simply won’t talk.

The whole situation started when two separate people filed complaints against the former presidential candidate and African Action Congress leader.

But here’s where it gets interesting – when police brought these petitions to Sowore, even with his lawyers right there in the room, he basically gave them the silent treatment.

“Look, we’ve got two serious allegations here,” Shogunle explained in a video that Sahara Reporters picked up.

“The first one is about him allegedly publishing a forged police document online.

We need to know – how did he get his hands on this document? The second petition is about cyberbullying.”

The commissioner was pretty straightforward about it: “Under Nigerian law, when someone accuses you of something, you’re expected to give your side of the story. It’s that simple.”

But Sowore? He’s not budging. Despite having legal representation present during questioning, he’s chosen to stay mum, which has left authorities in a bit of a bind.

This standoff has caused even more calls for his release, with supporters arguing that his detention is unjust.

Meanwhile, police are essentially saying their hands are tied until he decides to cooperate with the investigation.

It’s turning into quite the legal chess match, with both sides digging in their heels.
