Actor Mustapha Otolo Reveals Ibrahim Chatta Earns N5 Million Per Movie, Exposing Nollywood’s Growing Pay Gap

A revelation by veteran actor Mustapha Bakare Otolo has stirred debate within Nollywood after he disclosed that popular actor Ibrahim Chatta now earns as much as N5 million per movie role, the highest in the industry.

During one of his viral online interviews, Otolo lamented the growing income disparity between A-list stars and long-serving professionals barely trying to keep their heads above water. He explained that while Chatta reportedly commands millions and can feature in up to 20 productions monthly, many experienced actors receive between N250,000 and N300,000 per role.

“When Ibrahim Chatta appears on a movie set, he has been paid N5 million. That’s his current price,” Otolo said. “He is the highest-paid actor presently. You can’t compare him to some of us who are paid N250,000–N300,000 and feature in just one or two films a month.”

He added that such disparities make it difficult for veteran actors to fund and produce cinema-quality movies.

Otolo’s revelation has revived discussions on how Nollywood’s compensation system has gradually changed, with star power, social media influence, and box office appeal increasingly the determinants of earnings, leaving behind many established names in the industry’s new financial dispensation.
