Urban Afro singer Adekunle Gold has announced that his sixth studio album, Fuji, will be released on October 3, 2025. The album is a bold reawakening of his cultural roots, and the artist intends to bring Yoruba-born Fuji music into the global mainstream.
The album precedes his recent track, Bobo, featuring Lojay and Shoday. Blending Yoruba lyrics, Fuji percussion, and Afropop elements, the song has been described by critics as an indication of where the upcoming project will be headed.
As explained by Adekunle Gold, Fuji is not just an album. “Fuji music has always influenced Nigerian sound. With this album, I would like to place it where it really deserves on the world stage,” he continued.
Experts believe that the project can be a game-changer for the Fuji genre, which, while it has influenced Afrobeats and Nigerian pop culture, has never been central. Being a renowned international name, Adekunle Gold is capable of bringing Fuji out of its niche.
Cultural critics note further that the shift is part of a growing wave of Nigerian artists who are looking back to old-school sounds as Afrobeats continues to dominate the global landscape. In embracing Fuji, Adekunle Gold is essentially keeping an extremely Yoruba-influenced genre alive and breathing while also making it fresh.
At 38 today, the artist who jumped from alternative folk to Afropop stardom describes Fuji as his most personal album yet. The fans are expecting a record replete with collaborations, experimentation, and preservation of authenticity coupled with contemporary appeal.
With release deadline looming near, Fuji should reignite debates on the role of traditional music in Nigeria’s place on the global sound scene and further cement Adekunle Gold’s status as a cultural trailblazer.
